The
conch (shankha) is expressed as a jewel in Atharvveda.
There is great importance of the sound of a
conch in the Hindu religion. What is the advantage
of the sound of a conch in the religious ceremonies?

Those
who play conch at the tune of worship religious
performances, get free from all sorts of sin,
and enjoy the company of God Vishnu.
People around the area through which the sound
of the conch echoes are disinfected.
If
it is repeated everyday, the atmosphere around
the reach of its round will be pure and recuperated
even the scientist like Shri Jagdish Chandra
Basu has displayed this fact through his equipment’s.
We
know that sound runs faster at night than the
day. It is assumed that the sunray is obstacle
to the sound wave. The playing of canch in the
evening and early morning is rather beneficial.
For
the patient of speechlessness or those who falter
in speech, it is suggested that a canchful of
water, having been filled at might, should be
drunk in the morning.
They get cured in the couple shake. They also
benefit from the echo of the canch.
The
canch players never ail with the disease of
lungs, i.e. asthma, etc. The air polluted by
the breathing of people at the place of merry-making
is purified the canch-sound. It is also customary
to dabble the water of the canch after worship.
If the pregnant uses
the water with a canch, she does
not breed a dumb-child.
A
chapter named "Shankmani Sukta", the
hymn on the jewel canch, is also mentioned in
the "Atharvveda". The importance of
canch is interpreted in it.

Vidyuto jyotishaspari'
sa no Hiranyajah Shankhah,
Krishanah Patwam hasah"
O
canch! You are produced by the astrologers like
air, space, and are made of gold.
Do purge us of our sin.

samudradadhi jagyishe '
Shakhen hatwa raksham,
Asyatrino vi shahamahe "
O
canch ! You appear in the
Sea before brightening asterisms
And having vanished the
Demons, overcome us
The Satans.

Shankhenamivamatim,
Shakhenote sadanvah!
Shankho no vishwabheshajah,
Krishanah patwamhasah"
The
conch disinfects the diseases and absurdies.
We also disdain our poverty. You eclectic conch,
liberate me from my sins.

"Divi jatah samudrajah,
sindhutasparyabhritah !
sa no hiranyajah shankhah,
Ayushpratarano vnanihi "
Let
this conch which produced in the heaven and
the ocean , assembled in the rivers, and made
of the conch-shell (gold), be enhance our life-
time.

"Samudrajja to mani ,
vritrajja to, divakarah
so asmantsarvatah
Path hetya devasurebhayah !! "
Let
the jewel conch that comes out of the sea and
made of clouds and gems protect us from the
divine weapons of the gods and demons.

so mat twamadhi, jagyishel
rathe twamas darshat,
Ishudhan rochanstwam,
pran aayooshi tarighat !!
O
jewels conch ! you are one of the noble - spirited
lords. You are produced ambrosia. you are brightening
in the chariots and arrows. Bless me with a
long - life.
